Born in another century on a coast far away, Gertrude has been listening for a long time.
The inspiration for her installation the Singing Tree came from a bucket of scrap metal set aside by her son for recycling. The bucket contained a multiplicity of keys which led her to wonder about the stories the keys could tell, if our ears were listening.
Gradually over time, more keys came her way and other items began to sing their stories to her: pipes, hardware, guitar strings, heirloom china, and bicycle parts.
You will find the Singing Tree located along the river walk, close by the River where the wind provides harmony for its concert.
Gertrude would like to thank Wendy & Harley, Ted, Lynda, Craig, Ken and Les, for the items they have provided for this project of “found sound.”

Alain Bard has a passion for the creative arts. Being an avid juggler since 1992, Alain Bard learned to juggle while he was studying at the University of Ottawa, being a regular attendee of the local juggling jam. Although his geography degree has yet to pay a penny, his academic introduction to juggling has proven to be practical.
Alain has been performing professionally since 2004.
Most of his performances are “ambiance” in the walkabout style. This type of performance usually involves being fabulously dressed in original costumes, taking on a persona such as a king, a mage or a referee. These characters can be on foot or 9+ feet high on custom-made lightweight performance stilts.
Alain Bard is fully bilingual and is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
